What is the Presidents Cup Standings & How Does it Work?
The members of the international team that will compete in the 2022 Presidents Cup will be selected based on their performance in the qualification competition that will take place between the 2021 Open Championship and the 2022 BMW Championship. In addition to the top eight players on the Presidents Cup International Team Points List, skipper Immelman will select four other players to round up the roster for this tournament.
In many respects, the International Team Points System will be comparable to the Official World Golf Ranking. On the other hand, in contrast to the latter, the field strength and amount of points granted at each tournament will be determined by a mechanism that will remain a mystery. The winners of the Major Championship will get a total of 100 points, while the winners of the PLAYERS Championship will receive a total of 80 points. There will not be any additional event points that are necessary.
The number of points available to international teams will increase by a quarter of a point between the PGA Championship and the BMW Championship in 2022. The standings will be determined based on a weighted average of the points that were accumulated over the duration of the qualification process.
This page displays the current standings for the Presidents Cup, including those for both the United States and international teams. At Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 22-25, 2022, the United States team, led by Davis Love III, will defend their championship against the international team, managed by Trevor Immelman. The competition will take place (site of two PGA Championships).
On the PGA Tour, the qualification era for the Presidents Cup started with the 2021 Open and will continue all the way through the 2022 BMP Championship. Each team will have a total of 12 people, with six positions on the roster being required and the remaining six being captain’s selections.
In the middle of the qualifying procedure, it became clear that any player who signed with LIV Golf would be automatically disqualified from the competition. As a direct consequence of this, members of the United States team Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson DeChambeau, as well as members of the international team Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman, and Joachim Niemann, are unable to take part in the competition.

Teams Criterion
United States Team
FedExCup points are awarded to the top six (6) players on the US PGA TOUR based on the following point distribution between the 2019 A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier and the 2022 BMW Championship:
• 2019 A Military Tribute at the Greenbrier through 2020 BMW Championship:
• 1 FedExCup point = 0.5 point
• 2020 Safeway Open through 2021 BMW Championship:
• 1 FedExCup point = 1 points
• 2021 Fortinet Championship through 2022 BMW Championship:
• 1 FedExCup point = 3 points
The rest six members: the captain would select them.
International Team
The winners of these competitions will earn spots on the international teams that will compete in the Open Championship in 2021, the BMW Championship in 2022, and the Presidents Cup in 2022, respectively. The team will be made up of the top eight players on the Presidents Cup International Team Points List, in addition to four players chosen by the captain.
The International Team Points System will operate in a manner that is analogous to that of the Official World Golf Ranking; however, the size of the field and the number of points that will be granted at each tournament will be established by a formula that will remain a well guarded secret. There are not going to be any more minimum event points up for grabs. Instead, the winner of the Majors Championship will get a total of 100 points, while the winner of the PLAYERS Championship will receive a total of 80 points.
Beginning with the PGA Championship in 2022 and continuing until the BMW Championship in 2022, the international team points will be doubled. The ranking will be established by taking an average of the points that were granted throughout the time that counted for qualifying.
A player needs to take part in 15 or more competitions before they may be included on the Presidents Cup International Team Points List.
At a later point, there will be a selection of four (4) Captain’s Picks that will be disclosed.
