Presidents Cup 2019 Teams, Captains, Players: You need to Know
The Presidents Cup is a team competition featuring 24 of the world’s top golfers. The teams that competed were 12 from the United States and 12 from all over the world, except for Europe. The President’s Cup is held every two years, and since 1996 the venues have alternated between the United States and other member countries. And, the 2019 Presidential Cup will take place at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club from 9-15 December. More than 1,300 volunteers, including 450 Royal Melbourne Members, joined to help make this tournament the largest golf event in Australian history.
Following is the schedule for the 2019 Presidential Cup competition and events in Melbourne.
- Friday, December 6th
Junior Presidents Cup: Practice Round Course not open to Members or the public. - Saturday, December 7
Junior Presidents Cup: Practice Round Course not open to Members or the public. - Sunday, December 8
Junior Presidents Cup: Day One Gates open from 7 am to 5 pm. - Monday, December 9
Junior Presidents Cup: Day Two Gates open from 7 am to 5 pm. - Tuesday, December 10
Presidents Cup: Practice Round Gates open from 8 am to 5 pm. - Wednesday, December 11
Presidents Cup: Practice Round Gates open from 8 am to 7 pm. - Thursday, December 12
Presidents Cup: Day One Gates open from 8 am to 8 pm.
Celebrity Golf Cup (10 holes after play) - Friday, December 13
Presidents Cup: Day Two Gates open from 9 am to 8 pm.
ISPS HANDA Disabled Golf Cup (10 holes after play)
The top eight qualifications for the 2019 International Presidential Cup and the United States have been completed after the completion of the BMW PGA Tour Championship. Captain Ernie Els and Tiger Woods will choose four wildcard choices in the upcoming November 4th week. The top four players in the International standings are Marc Leishman, Adam Scott, Louis Oosthuizen, and Hideki Matsuyama. Oosthuizen is the only South African who automatically qualifies for this biennial match.
US representative Adam Scott cannot be underestimated. He is the player who has the most experience and is qualified for the US International team. Scott himself has played in the Presidential Cup eight times before this year. Scott was the only player on the International team to play at the event in 2011 when it was held at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club. The four players will have 17 combined appearances in this year’s Presidential Cup and will be flanked by four new entrants in this competition. The new arrivals are Abraham Ancer, Cameron Smith, Haotong Li, and C.T. Pan.
